Is 2018 the year to make the move?

Making a career change is a big step and is not something to be taken lightly. But, there are some pretty obvious signs you can spot that show it’s time for you to move on…

You spend Sunday evening’s dreading going to work in Monday but think that this is okay because doesn’t everybody hate Mondays? No. Granted Monday is not everyone’s favourite day, but you should look forward to new projects, seeing your colleagues and seeing results from your work.

You’ve lost motivation to perform at your best. It can become very hard to concentrate and perform at your best when not fully enjoying your job. This in itself is likely to make you feel even worse as you will lose any feeling of reward or gratification that you were getting from your role.

You find it hard to get along with your co-workers. This is a really important part of any role in any industry – to enjoy your job you need to get on with your colleagues. These are the people you spend most of your time with so if there are clashes it is likely to make your time in the office miserable.

You spend most of your time outside of work complaining about work. Let’s face it a large proportion of your time is spent at work, so you don’t want to be spending your free time moaning about work.

You‘re not being challenged. You constantly feel like your skills and potential is going to waste and your voice isn’t being heard. Being in situations like these will only lead to frustration and resenting your co-workers.

Getting out of bed each morning is the hardest task of your day. Everybody loves a lie in but when it comes to weekday mornings you should have a bit of ‘get up and go’ and actually want to be going to work.

You don’t feel appreciated. Maybe it’s your manager’s style, your workload or your salary if you don’t feel appreciated you will never enjoy your role or achieve your best.

If you are struggling with some of these issues the best thing to do is be open and honest with your employer/manager, you never know there may be different options that can be put in place to improve your work life. If not, it might be worth having a look into what else is out there.
