Being a motivator doesn’t come naturally to everyone. It’s something people have to work on constantly but get it right, and it can transform your workforce. Whether you’re brushing up on your motivation skills, want to be a better manager or even just better in your career, then this post is for you!
Here are our top 8 tips for motivating your team:
Know Your Game
You can only teach what you know! Constantly practice and train in your field whilst working hard to improve in the areas you’re not as knowledgeable in.
Honesty is reciprocated. Being open with your team allows them to be more comfortable and open around you which ultimately aids in building a strong bond and better team dynamic.
Team members respect managers who work as hard as they do. High energy is infectious in a team environment. Even if you’re slightly junior and lacking in experience, your energy and enthusiasm can make up for your shortfalls in other areas.
It’s important for you to search for ways to boost your team’s efficiency and reduce boredom. Making sure things run smoother and faster will also allow people to grow and work better together. Promoting an environment that fosters innovative thinking gives people the confidence to think outside the box, share ideas with each other and again, grow together as a team.
Show Them Why
People often follow thought patterns that include something called ‘Perceived Relevance’. Your team members need to know & understand that what they’re doing will help them to be the best that they can in their respective roles.
Identify & Reward
Identify when your team members are doing something right and reward them for it! It’s said that ‘That which is praised, gets repeated’.
Be true to yourself. Create your own style and play to your own strengths. People will respect you more for being authentic. Leading by example is a term thrown around in managerial strategy but it’s true! Being yourself and playing to your own strengths and style will have a positive influence on your team and will encourage them to do the same.
Show You Care!
It won’t matter to your team how much you know if you don’t care about them. Equally, your team members will go the extra mile for you if they know how much you care about their ideas and well being.
